
The Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Education has assured management of higher institutions in the state of continous commitment to support and synergize with them in order to ensure that quality education are provided to the students in the state
This, the committee said is to complement the efforts of Gov. Abdullahi Sule in the education sector of the state.
Mr Abel Bala, the Chairman, House Committee on Education and Deputy Majority Leader of the House gave the assurance when the committee visited College of Agriculture, Science and Technology ( COAST) Lafia and Isa Mustapha Agwai 1 Polytechnic, (IMAP) Lafia on Friday in Lafia for their 2024 budget performance.
The committee chairman expressed its total commitment to support IMAP Lafia and COAST Lafia to achieve academic excellence .
Bala said that the visit was to assess the 2024 budget performance for the first quarter.
According to him, We will not condole any form of sabotage as His Excellency has good intention for the education sector.
“The essence of this exercise is to oversight your activities. We are here to assess your budget performance for the first quarter
” This is a routine exercise aimed at checking your activities
“This is not a witch hunt exercise but it is our duties as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.
Bala commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule for developing the education sector in the state.
” I want to use this medium to commend His Excellency, Engr. A A Sule for the passion he has for the education among other sectors in the state.
” His Excellency has done credibly well in the education sector. Let’s all support his education and other policies to succeed,” he said
He assured of the committee readiness to give all their necessary support to the tertiary institutions in the state to ensure that the best standard of education is provided in line with the global best standard.
Earlier, Dr Yahaya Maikafi , the Rector, College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Lafia appreciated the committee and the House for their commitment in the education sector.
” We want to appreciate you for always standing behind us to succeed
” We also want to thank His Excellency, Engr. A A Sule for funding the school and we urge him to do more,” he said
Maikafi also commended Gov. Sule for donating two tractors to the institution.
The Rector, however sought for the intervention of the committee in the area of outstanding gratuity of over 500 million.
” We want to appeal to you to intervene for release of more funds for the payment of gratuity,” he said.
While at Isa Mustapha Agwai 1, Polytechnic (IMAP), Lafia, the committee chairman assured of their readiness to continue to support the institution to succeed.
He said what the committee was after is quality education in the state.
The committee chairman commended the Rector for performing well within his short period in office and urged him to do more assuring him of the full support of the House to succeed.
Earlier, Dr Nurudeen Maifata, the Acting Rector Isa Mustapha Agwai 1 Polytechnic Lafia appreciated the committee for being up and doing in ensuring the development of the institution.
The rector assured of his readiness to continue to key into positive policies and programmes that would have direct bearing on the lives of the staff and students of the institution.
Maifata revealed some of his intervention to include construction of chairs across departments to ease study, student carriers centre among others.
He, however, identified funding, manpower and backlog of promotion among others as major challenges facing the institution.
