Victims of Windstorm Disaster receive support in Nasarawa

No fewer than 200 victims of recent windstorm in Agbashi community of Doma Local Government have received financial support and building materials worth millions of naira to rebuild their affected houses.

Alhaji Ibrahim Olose, Chairman of the distribution committee, who made this known during the distribution exercise at Agbashi on Sunday, said the cash and other items were donated by Parliamentarians and well spirited individuals.

Olose said the relief materials distributed to over two hundred households was in response to the devastating Windstorm which ravaged houses,worship centres, schools, health facilities on April 2, in some parts of Nasarawa South Senatorial Zone.

“This unfortunate incident prompted well meaning individuals and groups to make donations in cash and building materials to the affected persons in Agbashi the headquarters of Ekye development area.

“This donation aimed at cushioning the hardship being faced by these people due to the natural disaster that negatively impacted their communities,” he said.

Alhaji Olose, while explaining that the distributed items were given based on the needs assessment conducted at Agbashi, Iponu, Okpanya, Ole gabogye and Kaduna Bassa, urged the beneficiaries not to sell the items but use them to improve their lives.

On his part, Donald Epoh,
Education Secretary Ekye Development area who is also the Secretary of the Committee explained that worship centres and schools that where affected by the windstorm also benefited from the gesture.

The committee expressed appreciation to the donors; Sen. Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo, Sen. Ahmed Wadada, Rep. Abubakar Hassan Nalaraba, Musa Ibrahim, State Assembly member and Joseph Attach, Rtd Comptroller of Customs among others.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Odawose Emmanuel and Enekwiri Abama Andrew thanked the donors for reaching out to them and appealed to the state government for more support.
