“… direct immediate reconstruction of collapsed structures in primary schools across the State…”

Nasarawa State House of Assembly Joint Committee on Education and Local Government, has directed the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and Local Government Chairmen to synergize and rebuild all the collapsed structures in primary schools across the state as a result of rainstorm.
Rt. Hon. Abel Bala, Chairman House Committee on Education and his counterpart of LG Hon. Musa Ibrahim, gave the directive when they engaged SUBEB and LG Chairmen in a meeting today in Lafia.
They said that the meeting was to find ways of reconstructing the collapsed buildings in primary schools caused by rainstorm across the state.
The lawmakers said the purpose of the meeting was also to find solutions to the devastation caused by the rainstorm that seriously destroyed buildings in primary schools in Doma, Wamba, Nassarawa Eggon, Awe and Keana LGAs.
This is also considering other minor destructions in some other Local Government Areas.
“The rainstorm has caused devastating effect in schools, places of worship, houses, health facilities, economic trees, among others
“We must come together to rescue the situation before it get out of hand. We must leave a better and lasting legacy via education for our children”
The lawmakers called on all hands to be on deck towards rebuilding the damaged primary schools.
“All hands must be on deck to give support towards rebuilding the damaged structures in our primary schools across the state”
The committee promised to go on assessment tour of the damaged schools to ascertain the level of damage in each of the primary schools with a view of assisting and supporting them.
The committee further urged SUBEB to always involve the LG Chairmen in their activities for transparency and accountability.
On his part, the ALGON Chairman and Chairman, Lafia Local Government Council, Hon. Aminu Muazu Maifata appreciated the assembly for its concerned on the situation in the primary schools in the state.
The State ALGON Chairman who is the National President of ALGON pledged to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to provide support in order to improve the standard of education of primary schools in the state.
He promised to use resources within the disposal of the LGAs to provide succour to the people affected by the rainstorm in the affected LGAs.
Commissioner One, SUBEB, Mr Muhammad Samir thanked the committee for its intervention and support to the board at all times.
He said that the meeting confirmed the concern the assembly has for education in the state.
While responding to the comment by ALGON Chairman, the SUBEB Commissioner one said every money that come to the board, come with responsibility.
He Noted that the board has to carry out need assessment for every project before applying for funds from UBEC.
The SUBEB Commissioner one disclosed that every project executed by the board in a community is handed over to the community and the Local Government for proper management.
