
Dr Mike Omeri, Former Director-General (DG) of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) on Friday urged President Bola Tinubu to sack non-performing appointees and bring in competence people capable of helping him address the increasing challenges confronting the nation.
The Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) made the call at an interaction with journalists on Friday in Lafia.
He said the president must review his strategies of providing enduring governance for the good of Nigeria and Nigerians or prepare to face total disappointment and reversal of fortunes.
He said the zeal, commitment of the president would remain a mirage unless Nigerians with goal driven ideas and passion for national development are encouraged to replace those not doing well in managing their present offices.
He said that national growth has continued to suffer set back because competent Nigerians were being sacrificed on the alter of reward for delivering once constituency or state to the president.
He explained that must people in positions are minimalist, macro and limited to the vagaries of our self-imposed fault lines.
“I know people are yearning for change, things that would make life better for them and the communities and when you have those without ideas, there is no way things would change for better.
He explained the biggest bane of the nation’s progress is that politicians come to governance without understanding the idea of the institutions of governance and they preoccupied their minds with what they would get and leave.
The PDP stalwart had also attributed lack of good governance to the factor responsible for japa syndrome being experienced currently in the country.
He advised that outcomes of research at the various libraries of universities and other tertiary institutions be put to test, as according to him, there were many recommendations that if used would help develop the country and address the current challenges. (NAN).
