COCIN President Receives Peace Ambassadorial Award

Inter-Religious Youth Affairs For Peace and Unity (IRYAFPU) has presented a peace ambassadorial award to the COCIN President Rev. Dr. Amos Mohzo as an Icon of Nation Building.

While presenting the award to Rev. Dr. Mohzo on Wednesday at the COCIN Headquarters Secretariat in Jos, the leader of the group Comrade Muhammad Taofeek described him as one of the few remaining fathers who has found satisfaction in human and youth development, adding that he has distinguished himself from others by setting the pace for excellence.

“We are not ignorant of the unblemished records and antecedents of Rev. Dr. Amos Musa Mohzo, a man whom (sic) has been so friendly and have (sic) empowered the youth because he found solace in them. Your unadulterated values of humility, hard works (sic), integrity and utmost of all patriotism has been our sources (sic) of motivation and moral upbringing as we ably understand that we must call for people of your kind for more development to come to our nation.

“Indeed, your years of unblemished records will continue to linger as one in a million for unprecedented, monumental and remarkable landmarks. May God in his infinite mercy continue to use you for the growth and development of this nation, as your exemplary leadership style has been our source of motivation. We will keep close tabs on you sir, because your steps remain our sources (sic) of inspiration and emulation.” Comrade Taofeek said.

Earlier in his speech Taofeek said the formation of the organization  (IRYAFPU) was necessitated by the need to advocate for peace, unity and harmonious coexistence in the society and one of the ways to achieve that is by identifying leaders that have done well and spur them to do more.

Responding, the COCIN President Rev. Dr. Amos Mohzo expressed delight in what he described as honorable task undertaken by the youth as their contribution to peaceful coexistence in the society. He said “we have a nation to build irrespective of whatever anyone from outside will say and that Nigeria is the only country we have and we must built it together”. 

He added that their desire is that the next generation will not experience what they are experiencing today.

According to him religion is an issue of choice and people make their choices according to their conviction. He said we have no substitute than to live together as brothers and sisters in the image of God. God did not make a mistake in bringing us from different backgrounds, ethnicity and tribes to live together, share together and build the future. He thanked them for the honor and expressed strong desire to make a difference at any time.

The COCIN General Secretary, Rev Assoc. Prof. Benjamin Pokol In his speech welcomed them to COCIN Headquarters and described the award as a loud testimony that what they are doing as leaders in the society is being noticed by young people out there. He thanked them for watching keenly to be able to notice the contributions of the President to peace building, particularly interfaith peace building.

According to him right from January up to date, the Church has been teaching members to seek the peace of the land which is a theme taken directly from the Bible Jeremiah 29:7. He said the Church is guided by the principles of the Lord the creator of humanity and express confidence that it is the principles that is guiding the youth.

He lamented that many of their mates in society are the vanguards of what creates disunity, war and sorrows but their effort is sign of hope for the nation.

The COCIN Director of Missions and Evangelism Rev. Ripji Merkuk who was in attendance during the presentation, said a special prayer for the youth.
