Group tasks politicians not to cause religious crisis in Nasarawa State

A group under the aegis Coalition of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) youths in Nasarawa State has called on politicians to desist from making inciting statements that is capable of causing religious crisis in the state.

Comr. Daniel Agbo, Chairman of the group made the call at a press briefing on Friday in Lafia, Nasarawa State capital.

According to him, the call became imperative given series of accusation and counter accusation after the judgment at the governorship elections petition tribunal on Oct. 2.

He explained that the stakeholders of both PDP and All Progressives Congress (APC) had since the judgment of the tribunal been making unguided and inciting utterances weeping religion sentiments.

He explained that the right of people to belong to any religion of their choice should be respected and politicians should focus their intention on issues.

“People should stop saying that the Muslim are dominating, Christian cannot role as well as they are indigenes or non-indigenes respectively,” he added.

The Chairman of the group also said it is unfortunate that religion leaders from both faith are also making comments capable of causing religious crisis.

“Religion leaders that are supposed to serve as the conscious of the society have also join politics openly and are promoting sentiment,” he added.

The group further said that the people should give priority to the peaceful coexistence, as no society can develop without peace.

“We should realise that there are Muslim and Christians in every family in the state, hence the need of all to promote things that unite us rather than things that divide us.

“The secret of growing stronger, bigger, united and happier is when we cherish one another irrespective of our religion, ethnic and political affiliations,” he stressed. (NAN).
