Incessant Attacks: Tiv group in Nasarawa sends save-our- soul message to FG, Sule

A group under the aegis Tiv Youth Organisation (TYO) has called on the Nasarawa State Government and the Federal Government to save the indigenous Tiv people in the state from annihilation.

Barr. Barnabas Zayol, President of the group made the call in a press conference on Thursday in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

According to him, they want to use this medium to call on the government to the security threat orchestrated by some traditional rulers in collaboration with some Fulani herdsmen against their people in Southern Senatorial Zone of the state.

He explained that their people in some villages in Lafia, Doma, Obi, Awe and Keana of the Southern Senatorial Zone were being attacked almost at regular basis and chased out of their ancestral homes.

“What surprised us is the taken over of our ancestral farmlands by the attackers.

“Some of the traditional rulers are saying that we are settlers and non-indigenes, he added.

The group added that so many Tiv people were killed in some of the attacks and their property destroyed.

He however, applauded Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State for always being proactive on security issues concerning them and appealed for the sustenance of such effort.

He appealed to the governor to fast track the work of a panel set up to look into their issue with a view of implementing the report of the panel.

“Doing so will engender peace and tranquility in the affected areas and help find a lasting solution to the immediate and remote cause of the problem,” he added.

He also appealed to the Federal Government and security agencies to ensure their presence in the rural areas to enable them go about their farming and trading activities without fear of attack. (NAN).
