The Nasarawa State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged that the money released to the state government as parts of palliative to cushion the effects of subsidy removal on the citizens has been diverted.
This is contained in a statement signed by, Mr. Francis Orogu, Nasarawa State PDP Chairman and made available to newsmen on Saturday in Lafia.
The Chairman called on the federal government to quickly intervene and recover the money given to the state government.
“Our attention has been drawn to the unwholesome diversion of the palliative and merciless shortchange of the poor people of our state by officials of the state government.
“This appeal has become urgent in order to ensure that the federal government’s noble decision to cushion the hardship Nigerians were facing does not become an avenue to line up the pockets of state government officials.
“It is now clear that rather than apply the funds to purchase foodstuff and other items to help the people, the money has obviously been diverted while the citizens of the state were being given pitiable measures of food items and ridiculous amount that are an insult on the reputation of President Bola Tinubu,” he added.
He further said that BBC Hausa service, reported that meager and miserly items were given to families to feed on.
Orogu said that the state government designed the whole process is obviously to turn the people against the president and the federal government as the meager items being distributed are blamed on the federal government.
He said as a party and as a people, he can not fold his arms and watch the good intention of the federal government to go down the drains.
He therefore appealed to the president to set up a distribution committee compressing the NLC, NUJ, Pensioners, ASUU, CSOs and other critical stakeholders to handle the palliative in Nasarawa State.
It could be recalled that the Department of State Security Service (DSS) had recently paraded some officials of Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency over diversion of relief materials meant for victims of 2022 flood disaster in the state.
The DSS who paraded the culprits in Abuja, said they were caught for selling the items in a market in Lafia.
