Plateau State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency to Enroll Tertiary Institutions’ Students

The Plateau State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency, PLASCHEMA is set to commence enrollment of students from all the 8 Tertiary Institutions in the state into its healthcare services.

This was made known by the Director General of the Agency, Dr. Jemchang Fabong during a meeting with leadership of the Tertiary Institutions and the leadership of Students Union Government (SUG) of the various Institutions at Crest Hotel Jos, Plateau State.

The program tagged “Tertiary Health Institutions Students’ Health Insurance Program ” (TSHIPS), according to the Director General is geared towards providing access for affordable and quality healthcare to the students in line with the mandate of the agency.

He hinted that the TSHIPS program is to commence in May this year hence, the need for bringing all the Tertiary Institutions together under one roof to discuss the benefits and to also look at the modalities for the enrollment of all the students to benefit from the scheme.

According to him, the program is for both public and private tertiary Institutions in the state under the formal sector platform. He said they are targeting enrolling the over 300,000 students in the state.

He said the students who will be enroll from the beginning of every season will pay a premium of N4000 only annually during tuition payment to benefit from the scheme which will cover the whole year.

Dr. Jemchang encouraged all the Institutions to have a standard Health clinic in their Institutions with a qualify doctor to meet the criteria to enroll their clinic or they can use any nearest health facility for Institutions that have no standard clinic.

He noted that as an agency, they can not lay claim to achieving a universal health coverage if the body of students are not brought up with their teachers and all workers to benefit from the scheme.

He reeled out some of the PLASCHEMA Health Plans that are designed in a manner that no citizen of the state is left behind to include, Equity Plan, Formal Plan, Informal and Private plans.

The Agency Boss used the avenue to inform their guests that the agency have so far enrolled 34,385 citizens who are currently benefiting from the services across their accredited 459 Health facilities in the 17 local government areas of the state. He said the agency has also adopted and equipped 3 Health facilities in the state.

Director Operation of the agency, Dr. Kwande Dawal also spoke on the benefits of the TSHIPS program for the students as the participants were given opportunity to ask questions moderated by the agency Public Relations Officer, Zakiyah Zumunta and the Director General responded to them accordingly.
