Kwamkur Samuel Foundation Advocates MSMEs Empowerment for Economic Growth

The Kwamkur Samuel Foundation for Justice Peace Development has joined the global world in commemorating this year’s International Day for Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSME) with a call on Nigeria to give maximum attention to small and medium scale businesses.

In a statement by Information Secretary of the Foundation Njien Racheal James and made available to Daily News Breakers in Jos, the foundation said the day brings to mind and recognizes the crucial role MSMEs play in driving economic growth, innovation, and job creation of any thriving nation. 

The statement noted that the importance and need for Nigeria to give maximum attention to small and medium scale businesses cannot be overemphasized, adding that “It is high time our words for empowerment of entrepreneurs is matched with actions that provide dependable results.

“While efforts toward the growth of the economy is well established and appropriate policies put in place, the implementation and sustainability of the policies is yet to be defined.” The statement added.

They called for provision of adequate and conducive environment for striving enterprises to be empowered through adequate and affordable power supply, access to grants or friendly loans facilities and reduced taxes. 

“On our part in the Kwamkur Samuel Foundation for Justice Peace Development – KSF, we are committed to supporting MSMEs through our active provision of mentorship, Skills training and other resources to numerous entrepreneurs.

“As we mark this all important day, we appeal to the government at all levels,  spirited individuals, companies and Non-Governmental Organisations to give more attention in championing the course of MSMEs if we must end poverty and over dependant on government.

“Let us work together to provide the necessary support for these enterprises to thrive. 

“Together, let us celebrate and empower the backbone of our nation’s economy and prosperity – the Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises.” 

The International Day for Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises which is being celebrated every 27th June, is a day set aside by the United Nations to recognize the vital contributions of MSMEs in creating jobs, driving economic growth, and empowering women, youth and the marginalized communities.

This year’s theme is “MSMEs and the SDGs; Leveraging Power and Resilience of Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises to accelerate Sustainable Development and Eradicate Poverty in Times of Multiple Crises.”
