ADC Campaign Flag-off, Tambuwal Vindicates Gov. Aliyu Over Insecurity – Group

A political pressure group, Sokoto Good Governance Forum (SGGF), has berated former governor of the State, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, for his previous comments faulting the administration of Governor Ahmed Aliyu over insecurity in the state.

The group said that for Tambuwal’s ADC to pick Sokoto State for its campaign flagging off means his criticism of the government over insecurity is not rational that as the immediate predecessor of the incumbent governor, he should be held responsible for the security mess he left behind.

Reacting on the ADC’s recent decision to flag-off campaign, the group said in all the 36 states, especially the northern states where insecurity is prevalent, it’s only Sokoto the Party felt is safer for its kick off in spite of the fact that Tambuwal has never appreciated Gov. Aliyu’s efforts in making the state accommodative.

“Before the inception of Governor Ahmed Aliyu in 2023, Sokoto State was under siege by bandits. Our people in several local governments were being killed, kidnapped and displaced daily.

“Villages were deserted. Markets were closed. Tambuwal watched helplessly while bandits took over our state”, the statement alleges.

The forum said Governor Aliyu has significantly restored peace and stability in the state since assuming office, through massive support to security agencies, recruitment of community guards, logistics support and strategic collaborations with the Federal Government.

“Today, many farmers have returned to their farms, our roads are safer, and our people can sleep with their two eyes closed. This is because Governor Aliyu has shown political will and commitment that Tambuwal never had,” the statement added.

The group mocked Tambuwal, saying it is ironic that the same insecurity Tambuwal is complaining about has improved so much under Aliyu that his new party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), is planning to flag off its presidential campaign in Sokoto.

“It is laughable that because security has improved under Governor Ahmed Aliyu, Tambuwal now wants to coordinate and host the ADC presidential campaign flag-off in Sokoto.

“The opposition ADC is leveraging on the amenities, peace and security provided by Gov. Aliyu to flag off their campaign. If Sokoto were still as insecure as Tambuwal left it, they wouldn’t even dare come to Sokoto,” the group said.

The SGGF advised Tambuwal to focus on explaining to Sokoto people how he allegedly mismanaged the state’s resources and security for eight years, instead of attacking a performing governor.

“Governor Aliyu is fixing the rot left behind by Tambuwal. He should hide his face in shame rather than seeking cheap political relevance,” the group said.
