Senator Shehu Buba Umar, the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) governorship candidate for Bauchi State, has donated ₦6.5 million and relief materials to victims of a deadly flood in the Bara community, located within the Kirfi Local Government Area.

The severe flooding, triggered by a torrential downpour, claimed the lives of a grandmother, Aishatu Sagir, and her granddaughter, Rahama Sagir.

The disaster also demolished numerous homes, destroyed farmlands, killed livestock, and left hundreds of residents displaced.

During a sympathy visit to the devastated community, Senator Buba delivered the ₦6.5 million alongside essential materials, which included 100 mattresses, 200 soft mats, 150 blankets,100 bags of maize and 25 bags of rice.

Senator Buba described the tragic deaths of the two family members of the community as heartbreaking and announced an additional, direct cash donation of ₦500,000 to the bereaved family.

Addressing the survivors, the lawmaker stated that the intervention aligns with his ongoing commitment to the welfare of his constituents during times of severe hardship.

He pledged to officially raise the disaster on the floor of the Senate to secure urgent federal government intervention, noting that the community remains in desperate need of food, clean water, and medical aid.

A physical assessment of the Bara community revealed a brewing humanitarian crisis as displaced male household members have resorted to sleeping inside local mosques.

Meanwhile, affected women and children are currently taking temporary shelter in the overcrowded homes of neighbours and relatives.

Alhaji Muhammad Abdullahi Bara, the District Head of Bara, expressed deep gratitude on behalf of the community.

He noted that the senator’s timely intervention would significantly alleviate the immediate suffering of the vulnerable families affected by the economic and physical losses.

Local residents widely praised the visit, describing the prompt response as a demonstration of compassionate, responsible, and proactive leadership during an emergency.
