Senate Seat Will Add Value to My Governorship Aspiration-Ombugadu

by Oboh Linus, Lafia

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Nasarawa North Senatorial bye-election, Dr David Ombugadu, has said that winning the Senate Seat would boost his chances of securing a governorship victory in the 2027 general elections.

Ombugadu stated this on Saturday in Akwanga during a stakeholders’ meeting with Mada Development Association ahead of the June 20, Nasarawa North Senatorial District bye-election.

Ombugadu, a former House of Representatives member and two-time PDP governorship candidate in Nasarawa state, 2019 and 2023, is also one of the frontline Gubernatorial candidates in the 2027 general election.

Addressing his teeming supporters, Ombugadu sought the support of the Mada extraction ahead of the June 20th bye-election for the Nasarawa North Senatorial elections to attract more development to the zone.

Speaking on why he contested for Senate in the bye-election and the 2027 governorship seat, Ombugadu said that the Senate has been a platform for high political networking and lobbying, adding that it would provide him with value addition to securing the governorship seat.

“I am not expected to remain in my village to have global influence. The Senate is where high political networking and lobbying are carried out. It’s to secure the governorship seat and not confusion,” he said.

He noted that he represented the zone for eight years and remains the only federal lawmaker from the area to have been returned to the House Represented for two consecutive tenures.

“First in the history of the zone, no member of the House of Reps has succeeded in returning to the National Assembly for more than two tenures. That was the evidence of their trust in me,” he said.

Ombugadu hinged his campaign on his track record, citing the construction of over 18 primary health centres across the zone, including eight in Akwanga alone.

He also listed projects at the College of Education, Akwanga, such as a sick bay, ICT centre, student buses, and solar street lights.

“I am only leveraging on things I have done before by going round the State, doing needs assessment, assessing some of the projects that we have done so that we will know the kind of intervention that we will do after June 20,” Ombugadu said.

He called on people of Nasarawa North Senatorial District who believe in the Ombugadu project to back his Senate bid, stating it would strengthen the collective resolve to actualise his governorship ambition.

Speaking with journalists shortly after the stakeholders’meeting, Mr James Bashaiyi, National President of the Mada Development Association, said the meeting was held at his instance to decide on the preferred candidate to support for the bye-election.

He, however, acknowledged the track record of achievements in the candidature of Ombugadu when he was at the Green Chamber.

“You can see the excitement from the crowd. After his departure we will sit down again so that we can agree whether we are to support Ombugadu fully or another candidate,” he said.(NAN)
