WINSEC Summit & Awards 2026 to Debut in Abuja, Focuses on Women’s Role in Security

The maiden edition of the Women in Security Summit and Awards (WINSEC) 2026 is set to hold in Abuja, with organisers finalising preparations for what is expected to become a major national platform celebrating excellence in Nigeria’s security and public service sectors.

The summit, scheduled to bring together stakeholders from the security community, media, civil society organisations and government institutions, aims to promote dialogue on national security issues while advancing the inclusion of women in security-related roles.

Speaking on the initiative, National Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, Aishatu Ibrahim, described WINSEC 2026 as a landmark event designed to recognise individuals and institutions whose dedication and sacrifices contribute to peace, safety and national development.

She said the summit is more than an award ceremony, noting that it will serve as a strategic platform for collaboration, dialogue and the exchange of innovative ideas aimed at addressing contemporary security challenges facing Nigeria.

According to Ibrahim, preparations for the event are in top gear, with less than four weeks remaining before the summit. She expressed confidence in the organising committee’s ability to deliver a well-structured and impactful event that meets international standards.

The NAWOJ national leader stressed that the success of the inaugural edition is crucial to establishing WINSEC as a sustainable annual gathering dedicated to promoting women’s participation and leadership within the security sector.

She further noted that the summit is being organised in collaboration with leading media and professional bodies, reflecting its commitment to transparency, professionalism and broad stakeholder engagement.

Organisers said details regarding keynote speakers, programme highlights and participation guidelines will be unveiled in the coming weeks.

The summit is expected to provide a platform for meaningful discussions on strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture while highlighting the contributions of women and other outstanding individuals working to advance national peace and security.

WINSEC 2026 is envisioned as a defining national event that will not only celebrate excellence in service but also reinforce the importance of inclusive security governance and national development.
