Girls’ Brigade Patrons Charged on Mentorship, Purposeful Service at Langtang Seminar

Mentorship and intentional guidance by patrons and patronesses have been identified as critical to the spiritual, moral, and social development of young girls in the society.

This was emphasized during a seminar organised for patrons and patronesses of the Girls’ Brigade, 10 Battalion at the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), Local Church Council, LCC Kangtang, in Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State on Saturday.

The seminar, themed “The Power of Service” with the topic “Purposeful Service” featured a paper presentation by Pastor Daniel Nanbol Listick, where he read from the book of Colossians 3:23 and many other Biblical references.

Speaking during the seminar, Pastor Listick stressed the need for intentional mentorship of girls spiritually, morally and socially in order to equip them for future leadership and responsible living.

He explained that purposeful service involves serving God and humanity with dedication, humility and a clear understanding of God’s will, noting that patrons and patronesses occupy strategic positions in shaping the lives of young girls.

According to him, mentorship within the Girls’ Brigade should go beyond routine activities to include role modelling, leadership development, emotional support and instilling godly values among the girls.

Pastor Listick also highlighted the importance of cleanliness, discipline, sacrifice, faithfulness and humility as key characteristics of purposeful service, urging members to remain committed to impacting lives positively.

The presentation further addressed issues of civic responsibility and community development, encouraging members to participate in voter registration, birth registration, tax payment, environmental care, tree planting, education promotion and peaceful coexistence.

The seminar, which was interactive, provided participants the opportunity to discuss challenges affecting purposeful service in the Girls’ Brigade, including declining membership, resource constraints, leadership development and cultural pressures, while also suggesting possible solutions.

Also speaking, the Chaplain of the Girls’ Brigade 10 Battalion, Rev. Julius Yarnap, reiterated the importance of mentorship, reminding patrons and patronesses that young girls depend on them for spiritual and social growth.

He appreciated the resource person for what he described as a timely and impactful presentation, urging participants to remain steadfast in their commitment to nurturing future generations.

The seminar concluded with prayers and renewed calls for intentional, Christ-centered service aimed at building responsible girls who would positively impact the church and society.
