The campaign organization for former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, has officially rejected the purported endorsement of a preferred governorship candidate by Governor Abdullahi Sule.
The Director General of the Mohammed Abubakar Adamu 2027 Gubernatorial Movement, Barr. Musa Hussein, stated this during a press conference held at the NUJ office in Lafia, the state capital.
He described the Governor’s recent actions as unconstitutional and a threat to the internal democracy of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The controversy was from a report that Governor Sule has allegedly adopted a preferred aspirant identified in recent political circles as Senator Ahmed Wadada ahead of the party’s primaries.
Barr. Hussein clarified that the APC Constitution recognizes only two paths for selecting a candidate which are direct primaries or consensus.
“There is no provision for unilateral adoption or imposition of any aspirant by individuals or party structures, Any declaration of a ‘preferred choice’ is therefore unofficial and without constitutional backing.” Hussein stated.
The Adamu campaign insisted that the governorship contest must be a democratic contest, not a coronation.
They reminded party officials that they are constitutionally obligated to remain neutral until a candidate emerges through the proper channels.
The movement further reaffirmed that the only legitimate process for selecting the APC flagbearer remains the direct primary election, which they noted is scheduled for May 21, 2026.
Barr. Hussein therefore called on the APC National Leadership to urgently review the political developments in Nasarawa State, nullify all unconstitutional declarations and endorsements, by ensuring a level playing ground for all aspirants to maintain party unity.
“To the people of Nasarawa State, we urge you not to surrender your voice, the constitution of the party must prevail. The primaries will hold, and the people will decide.”
