Mr Silas Agara, Former Director-General (DG) of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), has formally declared his intention to contest the Nasarawa North Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
Agara made the declaration on Monday in Akwanga Local Government Area (LGA) at an event where he also inaugurated his campaign council ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries.
Agara resigned his position as DG of the NDE to pursue his ambition to represent Nasarawa North at the red chamber.
Addressing party faithful and supporters drawn from Akwanga, Nassarawa-Eggon, and Wamba LGA, which make up the Senatorial District, Agara said his decision was driven by calls from constituents and his desire to provide purposeful and people-driven representation at the National Assembly.
“This is not an ambition born out of desperation. It is a mission to consolidate on my years of public service and bring federal presence closer to the people of Nasarawa North,” Agara said.
He announced that 15 persons would coordinate for him in each of the 586 Polling Units, five persons in each of the 35 electoral wards, five persons in each of the LGAs and 40 persons at the central campaign council among others to ensure his victory at the primaries.
He listed job creation, youth empowerment, agricultural development, and improved federal infrastructure as his legislative priorities if elected.
“Nasarawa North deserves a voice that understands unemployment and knows how to create jobs. I ran NDE for years. I know the policy gaps. At the Senate, I will push for laws that unlock opportunities for our young people,” he added.
In his acceptance speech, Usman Aya, Director General of Agara campaign council described the aspirant as the most prepared aspirant for the seat, citing his experience at NDE and his grassroots reach.
“Agara is not new to service. He has touched lives across this district as Commissioner and Deputy Governor in the state and as Federal Commissioner of National Population Commission and DG NDE,” he added. (NAN).
