Outrage in Plateau as SWS Condemns Angwan Rukuba Killings, Demands Justice for Victims

The Plateau State chapter of the Stand Up for Women Society (SWS) has strongly condemned the recent killings in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area, describing the incident as “wicked, senseless, and barbaric.”

In a statement signed by its Chairperson, Mrs. Rhoda Pomak Micah and Public Relations Officer, Palang Kasmi, the group decried the Palm Sunday attack which reportedly claimed over 30 lives and left more than 20 others injured.

They expressed deep sympathy to the families of the victims, noting that the unprovoked violence has once again highlighted the worsening security situation in Nigeria, particularly in Plateau State.

“The gruesome attack is a painful reflection of the deteriorating security landscape, where innocent citizens are targeted while going about their daily activities,” she said.

The SWS called on security agencies to launch a thorough investigation into the incident and ensure that those responsible are apprehended and prosecuted.

According to SWS, failure to bring perpetrators to justice could embolden further attacks across vulnerable communities in the state, including Mangu, Bokkos, Bassa, Riyom, Barkin Ladi, and Jos South.

They urged the Plateau State Government, local government authorities across the 17 LGAs, and security agencies to intensify efforts to safeguard lives and property, in line with their constitutional responsibilities.

The group also called on residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements, while emphasizing the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining security.

Despite the tragic incident, SWS appealed for calm among residents, urging them to remain law-abiding and committed to peaceful coexistence.

“There is no alternative to peace,” SWS stressed, warning against retaliatory actions.

The organization offered prayers for the repose of the souls of the victims, including women, children, and men who lost their lives in the attack, and expressed hope that justice would ultimately prevail.
