Following the unprovoked Palm Sunday attack at Gari Ya Waye area of Angwan Rukuba in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, a forensic security expert, Hon. Solomon Nandy Chendan, has called on Governor Caleb Mutfwang to deploy the state’s security vote toward introducing border electronic security.
Chendan made the call while reacting to the killing of innocent lives during the attack, which also left scores of people with varying degrees of injuries on Sunday night.
Hon. Solomon Nandy Chendan, who was the 2023 governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said that deploying border electronic security across the 17 local government areas, especially the nine interstate border points, would help address the incessant attacks in Plateau State.
He said, “From my findings, we have nine entry points into Plateau State from neighbouring states of Kaduna, Nasarawa, Bauchi, and Taraba. The introduction of border electronic security at these entry points will help curb the persistent security threats in the state.”
While condemning the attack, Chendan, who is also a top contender in the 2027 governorship race under the ADC, sympathised with the victims and all Plateau citizens over what he described as a dastardly act of terrorism.
“I am shocked and saddened by the brutal attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North, Plateau State. My heart goes out to the victims and their families. On behalf of myself and the ADC family in Plateau State, I strongly condemn this senseless violence,” he said.
“I call on the government to take full responsibility for protecting citizens’ lives and property, regardless of tribe or religion,” he added.
The 2027 ADC governorship aspirant called for urgent action to address the insecurity bedevilling the state for over two decades and to ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.
Reports indicate that 28 lives were lost in the attack, which has left the entire community in mourning and heightened tensions in the Jos metropolis. This development necessitated the Plateau State Government to declare a 48-hour curfew in Jos North Local Government Area.
