The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Dr Margareth Elayo has called on youth groups and community leaders to actively participate in the monthly sanitation exercise.
Elayo gave the charge on Saturday in Lafia during sanitation inspection at Kilema Community.
The Kilema Youth Development Association led by its chairman Usman Zanwa organised sanitation exercise to complement the efforts of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.
The Commissioner commended the Kilema Youth Development Association for the partnership as well as setting the pace for other community to follow by keeping their environment clean.
The Commissioner, represented by the General manager, Nasarawa Environment Protection Agency, Mr Yusuf Adeka urged youths across communities to emulate kilema youths to keep the entire state clean.
Elayo, however, expressed satisfaction with the level of compliance by the residents of Lafia in the monthly sanitation exercise.
She noted the State Government under the leadership of Gov. Abdullahi Sule was ready to work with youths who embrace and support the sanitation initiative.
She cautioned people to desis from dumping refuse on water ways to avoid flooding as the raining season approaching.
Also speaking, the chief prosecuting officer of the Ministry, Abubakar Muhammad said 25 tricycle operators were arrested for breaching sanitation laws and would be prosecuted accordingly.
Earlier, the chairman of kilema Youth Development Association Usman Zanwa said the Association decided to participate voluntarily in the sanitation exercise to complement Government’s efforts.
“This is not the first that the association is organising sanitation exercise in the community, we appealing to the Ministry to support the association to sustain the initiative,” he said. (NAN)
