The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has concluded its 2026 National Convention in Abuja, electing Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda as the party’s new National Chairman.
In his acceptance speech, Prof. Yilwatda pledged to reposition the party and strengthen its internal structures, assuring members of his commitment to move the APC forward.
The convention followed the accreditation of delegates on Friday, March 27, 2026, at Farm City, Maitama, before the main event at Eagle Square.
The gathering drew delegates, party leaders, government officials, and special guests from across the country to deliberate on reforms, unity, and the future direction of the party, as well as elect members of the National Executive Committee.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu delivered a keynote presentation focusing on strategies to improve Nigeria’s economy and reinforce the APC’s role in governance.
Key policy and reform presentations were delivered by top government officials, including the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, alongside heads of agencies such as the National Identity Management Commission and the Rural Electrification Agency. Progressive remarks were also presented by leaders of the Governors Forum, National Assembly, and other stakeholders.
The convention was formally declared open by Aminu Bello Masari, Chairman of the National Convention Planning Committee, while Mai Mala Buni outlined the programme of events.

During the proceedings, motions were adopted to ratify previous ward, local government, state, and zonal congresses. Delegates also approved consensus as the mode of election, leading to the dissolution of the outgoing National Executive Committee and the emergence of new officers.
Delegates from Plateau State were led by Governor Caleb Mutfwang alongside the State Party Chairman, Hon. Rufus Bature.
The event featured goodwill messages from representatives of various groups, including NELFUND beneficiaries, market women, labour unions, youths, and persons with disabilities. Cultural displays from different states, including Plateau, added colour to the convention, showcasing Nigeria’s rich diversity.
The 2026 APC National Convention was widely described as a platform for unity, reform, and cultural celebration. With the emergence of Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda as National Chairman, the party reaffirmed its commitment to progress and national development.
