The Nasarawa State Police Command has recovered two stolen vehicles in separate operations, reinforcing ongoing efforts to combat crime and enhance public safety across the state.

The breakthrough, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by the command Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, follows directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Olutunji Disu, to intensify crime fighting measures nationwide.

The statement read that “In the early hours of March 17, 2026, police operatives responded to a distress call reporting the theft of a black Toyota Prado SUV with registration number YAB 81 KC (Abuja), believed to be heading towards Lafia. Acting swiftly, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, deployed a joint team comprising officers from ‘A’ Division, Lafia, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, and Operation Nasara.

“The vehicle was subsequently recovered near Izallah Mosque in the Mararaba Akunza area of Lafia. However, the suspects fled the scene before the arrival of security operatives. Police say efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend those responsible.” He added.

In a related development, another suspected stolen vehicle a silver Pontiac Vibe without a registration number was recovered on March 16, 2026, at Aso B area near Assemblies of God Church in Mararaba, Karu Local Government Area. The recovery followed credible intelligence about suspicious individuals in possession of the vehicle.

“Upon sighting the police, the suspects reportedly fled, abandoning the car. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a number plate (NBB-52 TT), a Nigerian Correctional Service beret, and photocopied documents believed to be linked to the vehicle.”

Preliminary investigations revealed that the Pontiac Vibe had earlier been reported stolen on March 11, 2025.
