Plateau, Nigeria – Residents and commuters across Jos North, Jos East and Jos South Local Government Areas of Plateau State have expressed excitement following the flag-off of a major road network project by Plateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang.
The governor on Friday launched the construction of the strategic road network linking Haske, Gwafan and Kwang A & B, a project expected to improve connectivity and ease transportation challenges within the Jos metropolis.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held at Haske Quarters along Fobur Road in Jos North on March 13, 2026, marks the beginning of an infrastructure intervention aimed at linking communities and boosting economic activities across Jos North, Jos East and Jos South Local Government Areas.
Speaking during the ceremony, Governor Mutfwang said the project was more than just road construction, describing it as part of his administration’s broader commitment to strengthening unity and improving the living conditions of residents.
According to him, the road network will serve as a strategic link between the three urban councils, fostering stronger social and economic ties among the people.
“By the time this road is completed, nobody will notice the boundary between Jos East, Jos North and Jos South. It is not just about constructing a road; it is about uniting our people, uplifting communities and making life better for our citizens,” the governor said.
He expressed optimism that the project would improve access to residential estates, schools and healthcare facilities in the area, while creating opportunities for businesses to thrive.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Sylvanus Dongtoe, described the project as a clear demonstration of the commitment of the administration to delivering the dividends of democracy through strategic infrastructure development.
Dongtoe explained that communities within the project corridor had faced serious accessibility challenges for years, especially during the rainy season. He noted that the new road network would improve access to key institutions including Zion High School, Marysol Hospital and Omega School.
The commissioner disclosed that the project covers about 17 kilometres within the city centre and has been awarded to Jecon Construction Nigeria Limited, a construction firm expected to deliver the project within the agreed timeframe.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Jos North Local Government Area, Barr. John Christopher, commended the governor for what he described as a long-awaited intervention that will bring relief to residents who have endured years of hardship due to poor road conditions.
He said the project reflects the governor’s commitment to improving the welfare of the people, describing the flag-off as a memorable birthday gift to the three local government areas.
Similarly, the Chairman of the Jos North Traditional Council and Ujah Anaguta, HRH Johnson Magaji II, praised the administration for its people-oriented policies and pledged the support of the traditional institution for programmes aimed at advancing development in Plateau State.
In his goodwill message, the Managing Director of Jecon Construction Nigeria Limited, Joseph Ezekiel, thanked the Plateau State Government for the confidence reposed in the company and assured that the project would be executed according to the agreed specifications and timeline.
