The Member representing Lafia Central Constituency in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly and SDP candidate for the Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency in the 2027 general election, Hon. Solomon Yakubu Akwashiki, has called for peace and issue-based political campaigns in Nasarawa State.
Hon. Akwashiki, popularly known as “Mr. Project,” made the call while speaking with journalists during an interview at his office, where he cautioned politicians and their supporters against acts of violence, intimidation and personal attacks as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The lawmaker stressed that peace remains essential to the development of society, saying violence cannot produce meaningful results or create the conditions needed for communities to prosper. He therefore urged politicians in the state to focus their campaigns on issues, policies, programmes and their records of service rather than attacks on political opponents.
According to him, political campaigns should provide the electorate with the opportunity to examine what candidates have done in the past, what they are currently doing and what they intend to do if given the opportunity to serve. He encouraged voters to look beyond political rhetoric and carefully assess the antecedents and records of those seeking their support.
Akwashiki also urged the electorate to remain vigilant during the political season, noting that the ability of a politician to speak or make promises should not be the only basis for gaining public confidence.
He further appealed to politicians across Nasarawa State to conduct their campaigns responsibly, emphasizing that political differences should not become a reason for violence or attacks.
The lawmaker concluded with a call for peaceful participation, reiterating that violence cannot produce what peaceful engagement cannot achieve, and urged all stakeholders to prioritize the peace, unity and development of Nasarawa State as the 2027 elections approach.
