U.S. President Donald J. Trump has nominated Cissie Graham Lynch to serve as the United States Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom, a position focused on promoting and defending religious freedom globally.
The nomination was announced by Lynch’s father, evangelical leader Franklin Graham, who expressed pride in her nomination and asked for prayers for wisdom and strength as she begins the confirmation process.
If confirmed by the U.S. Senate, Lynch will serve as Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom, representing the United States on issues concerning freedom of religion or belief and religious persecution around the world.
Franklin Graham described his daughter as uniquely qualified for the role, citing her international travels, knowledge of religious-freedom issues and broad exposure to challenges facing faith communities globally.
Cissie Graham Lynch is the daughter of Franklin Graham and granddaughter of the late renowned evangelist Billy Graham. She has been involved with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan’s Purse since 2010, serving in various capacities and currently as a senior adviser and ministry spokesperson.
She is also the host of Fearless with Cissie Graham Lynch, a podcast produced by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association that discusses cultural and faith-related issues from a biblical perspective.
Lynch has also travelled internationally through her work with Samaritan’s Purse, supporting initiatives involving women and children. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication from Appalachian State University.
Born in 1986 in Boone, North Carolina, Lynch is married to former NFL player Corey Lynch, and they have three children.
Her nomination now moves to the U.S. Senate, which must confirm her before she can formally assume the ambassadorial position.
