Former President Goodluck Jonathan has officially flag off the construction and modernization of four major recreational parks in the Bauchi metropolis, a project valued at ₦4.68 billion.
The initiative is part of the state’s urban renewal and environmental sustainability programme.
The targeted sites include the Golden Jubilee Park, General Hassan Usman Katsina Park, Shehu Azare Park, and Suleiman Adamu Park.
To ensure rapid execution, the Bauchi State Government announced it has already advanced a 70% mobilization payment to the contractors, with a strict completion timeline of 12 months.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Governor Bala Mohammed emphasized that public parks are vital infrastructure.
He noted that the projects aim to provide safe spaces for relaxation, improve environmental quality, and boost local tourism.
Governor Mohammed also warned contractors that substandard work or project delays would not be tolerated
In his remarks, former President Jonathan praised the state government’s foresight, stating that public parks are urban necessities rather than luxuries.
He added that the facilities would foster healthier living and drive economic growth, while urging residents to protect the infrastructure once completed.
Notably, the modernization of the Golden Jubilee Park will serve a dual purpose, doubling as a landmark monument to commemorate Bauchi State’s 50th anniversary.
