The Nasarawa State House of Assembly Lawmaker, Mohammed Omadefu, has vowed to mobilise support for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections to unseat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Omadefu, who is the former majority leader of the House, said this in an interview with newsmen in Lafia.
The lawmaker, who is currently the House Committee Chairman on Environment, declared support for the SDP governorship candidate, IGP Abubakar Adamu, the former Inspector General of Police.
It will be recalled that Mohammed Omadefu, member representing the people of Keana State Constituency, alongside Jacob Kudu, who represents Nasarawa Eggon East, had recently defected from APC to SDP.
Omadefu said his defection to SDP was triggered after being denied victory in the recent APC primary election, despite polling 7,868 votes, which was the highest votes cast.
Omadefu alleged several manipulations by APC that resulted in his being rigged out of the primary election in Keana State Constituency.
He linked the development surrounding his primary election in 2026 to a pattern of neglect being experienced in 2019
“In the whole state, nobody has gone through court litigation like myself. I went to seven courts before and after the 2023 elections. I was also denied delegates in the 2022 indirect primaries before an appeal committee reinstated me.
” I have been loyal, right from time. Very patriotic, and I have been serving the ruling party and the government; I’ve been doing that thinking the leaders will see those that are really sacrificing to pay them,” he stated.
Omadefu expressed confidence that the SDP would win the 2027 governorship election in the state.
“We will give them the very fight they never thought would happen. I want to tell you that SDP, by the grace of God, is going to clinch the governance of the state come 2027.
“To my constituency, I will continually maintain the toga of serenity, of development, speaking their voice, raising their voice, raising the banner of legislative performance while in SDP,” he said.
He criticised the government’s handling of internally displaced persons, citing communities in Assakyio and Keana that have been displaced due to communal crisis
“I have gone to the Governor of Nasarawa State, severally, to talk about some of these amenities for our people to return; unfortunately, that has never seen the light of the day.
“The government of the SDP is poised to see that such things will be tamed to the barest minimum. And I’m assuring you that, because it’s my problem too,” he said.
Omadefu appealed to Nasarawa people to trust the SDP and its candidates in the 2027 general elections.
“Looking at the kind of candidates that are contesting for the governorship election, nobody’s credentials can match the IGP Adamu’s credentials.
“He is not coming to look for money; he is coming to serve the people and bring development to the state. He is experienced, he is capable and reliable,” he emphasised. (NAN)
