Maj. Gen. Nuhu Angbazo (Rtd) has clinched the governorship ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Nasarawa State for the 2027 general elections.
Announcing the result on Tuesday in Lafia, Mr Solomon Dalung, Chairman of the ADC primaries elections for Nasarawa State, said that Angbazo scored 23,931 votes to defeat his closest rival, Mohammed Abdullahi, who garnered 18,197 votes.
Dalung said after reviewing reports from four contentious LGAs, Doma, Toto, Nasarawa and Karu, the committee resolved and accepted the results from Doma and Nasarawa elections based on the fact that elections were conducted.
“The electoral officer in Toto reported being abducted and detained in Keffi with an aspirant’s agent before being released with the results; therefore, the committee rejected the result, citing irregularities.
“The electoral officer in Karu abandoned his post citing threats and violence. Results brought by an unauthorised individual were also rejected.
“Based on the validated results, Gen-. Angbazo scored 23,931 votes and was returned as elected,” he announced.
The committee emphasised that its decision is provisional as the full report will be submitted to the ADC National Working Committee for final confirmation and affirmation.
“The committee has acted in line with party guidelines and the principle that elections without evidence of physical counting cannot stand,” he stated.
Angbazo, while speaking with newsmen shortly after the announcement of the results, thanked the party and electoral committee for putting in place a thorough process that resulted in a credible election.
He said that he would initiate a reconciliatory process to bring together those he had contested with, aiming to forge common ground toward achieving a specific goal for the party.
“We are all winners, nobody is a loser in this contest. This victory is for the party.
“I want to thank the party members, our supporters, and the people of Nasarawa state. This is the time to come together and put all differences behind us and work for the victory of the party,” he appealed. (NAN)
