The National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Bauchi State chapter, has hosted a one-day sensitisation programme to boost women’s participation in politics and improve voter registration awareness.
The event was organised in partnership with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the National League of Women Voters (NILOWV), Bauchi State chapter.
Speaking at the event, NAWOJ State Chairperson, Hajiya Rashida Yusuf, stated that the initiative aims to empower women to drive positive peer influence through the ballot box.
She urged the attendees to closely monitor INEC activities, especially the ongoing public display of registered voters’ names.
Rashida stressed that women must proactively register, update their records, and fully engage in all electoral processes.
Echoing this stance, the NILOWV Chairperson, Hajia Zainab Mohammed, revealed that her organisation has scaled up grassroots campaigns, including dedicated radio broadcasts and emphasised that the push for inclusion transcends political party lines.
“We want women to be included, to vote, and be voted for too.We want to see women actively participating in the political system regardless of political party affiliations” She said.
Addressing the session, the INEC Gender Desk Officer for Bauchi State, Naomi Yusuf affirmed the commission’s commitment to securing meaningful representation for women at every level of governance.
She noted that true political impact begins directly at the local polling units before advancing to national platforms and lauded the media as an indispensable partner in driving voter education.
She confirmed that INEC is maintaining continuous voter registration and Permanent Voter Card (PVC) updates across all local government areas in Bauchi State to ensure no eligible voter is disenfranchised.
