Niger: Newgate Varsity gets NUC approval to run 14 Postgraduate programmes

Niger, Nigeria – Foremost private University in Niger state, the Newgate University, Minna has announced the official commencement of various postgraduate programmes following the approval of the National University Commission (NUC).

This was as the Institution has finalized modalities to begin exchange programmes with Universities in the United Kingdom and Eastern Europe.

While addressing newsmen at the Senate Chamber on Tuesday, the University Vice Chancellor, Professor Sadiq Yusuf said that all necessary arrangements towards the admission of first cohort of postgraduate students have been made and they are expected to begin in May next year.

He disclosed that the approval covers a broad spectrum of programme, including Postgraduate Diplomas, Master’s degrees, Professional Master’s programmes, and Doctoral degrees across several strategic disciplines.

While commending the National Universities Commission NUC for the approval, the Vice Chancellor assured that the Institution will maintain the highest standards of academic excellence.

According to Prof. Yusuf “the University Management has structured the Postgraduate school to deliver research excellence, professional relevance, and Innovation-driven academic leadership.

“Our programmes will strengthen research capacity, train high level professionals and scholars, that will contribute meaningfully to national development through knowledge creation and innovation.

“Currently, we are running sixteen programmes with fourteen postgraduate and two undergraduate programmes as the students population now stands at 2,018”.

Prof. Yusuf added that the programmes consist of PGD in Management, Accounting, Finance, Computer Science and Public Health while MSc in Computing, Accounting, Public Health, International Relations.

Others are PhD in Computer Science, Public Health, Accounting, management studies, International Relations while Master’s level in Public Health, Business Administration, Accounting/Finance, Strategic Studies, Development Studies, International Affairs and Diplomacy just as Professional Doctorates in Business Administration, Management Studies and Public Health respectively.
