NCDC mourns deaths from mining mishaps, insecurity in Plateau

The North Central Development Commission (NCDC) has expressed sadness over recent deaths linked to mining incidents and renewed insecurity in Plateau State.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the commission, Cyril Tsenyil, conveyed the message in a statement on Tuesday.

He described the loss of miners in Zurak Kompani community of Wase Local Government Area as painful and unfortunate.

Tsenyil noted with concern that accidents in mining communities continued to claim lives and cause injuries, stressing the need for urgent and coordinated measures to strengthen safety standards and regulatory compliance across the sector.

He sympathised with families of the deceased and wished injured victims speedy recovery, while reaffirming the commission’s commitment to working with key stakeholders in the mining value chain to promote safer practices and ensure sustainable economic benefits for host communities.

The commission also lamented attacks in parts of Barkin Ladi, which reportedly resulted in loss of lives and destruction of property, describing the recurring violence as troubling and unacceptable.

It called for enhanced collaboration among security agencies, community leaders and relevant authorities to address underlying causes of the incidents and prevent further occurrences.

The NCDC urged that perpetrators be apprehended and prosecuted in accordance with the law, while assuring residents of its continued dedication to programmes that promote peace, safety and sustainable development across the North Central region. (NAN)
