Jos, Nigeria – The administration of Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has prioritized Water, Sanitation, and Energy, as revealed in the breakdown of the 2026 budget.
During a press briefing at the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning Hall in Jos on Friday, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Adams Lekshak, disclosed that the total approved budget size for the state in 2026 is Eight Hundred and Seventeen Billion, Five Hundred and Nine Million, Six Hundred and Eighty-Nine Thousand, Four Hundred and Thirty-Two Naira (N817,509,689,432.00) only.
The budget represents a sharp increase of Three Hundred and Eighteen Billion, Fifty-Eight Million, Five Hundred and Twenty-Eight Thousand, Three Hundred and Twenty-One Naira, Thirty-Seven Kobo (N318,058,528,312.37) compared to the 2025 state budget.
The budget, tagged “Budget of Consolidation and Sustainability 2,” allocated the Ministry of Water, Sanitation, and Energy the sum of One Hundred and Seven Billion, Seventy-Seven Million, One Hundred and Seventy-Six Thousand, Four Hundred and Fifty-Six Naira (N107,077,176,456.00), representing 13.10 percent of the total budget and the highest allocation.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industries received the least allocation, with the sum of One Billion, Eight Hundred and Fifty-Five Million, Four Thousand, One Hundred and Fifty-One Naira (N1,855,004,151.00). Meanwhile, the Ministry of Works and Transport received Ninety-Two Billion, Seven Hundred and Fourteen Million, Eighty Thousand, Five Hundred and Seventy Naira (N91,714,080,570.00).
The sum of Ninety-One Billion, Three Hundred and Three Million, Six Hundred and Fifty Thousand, One Hundred and Eighty-Six Naira (N91,303,650,186.00) was allocated to the Ministry of Education, while the Ministry of Health received Eighty-Eight Billion, Three Hundred and Sixty-Three Million, Five Hundred and Sixty-Seven Naira, Ninety-Six Kobo (N88,363,000,567.96).
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development received Forty-Eight Billion, Fourteen Million, Four Hundred and Forty Thousand, Five Hundred and Eighty-Seven Naira (N48,014,440,587.00), while Twenty-Nine Billion, One Hundred and Eighty-Eight Million, Two Hundred and Eleven Thousand, Three Hundred and Seventy-Five Naira (N29,188,211,375.00) was earmarked for the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development.

The Ministry of Information and Communication received Three Billion, Eight Hundred and Thirty-Five Million, Seven Hundred and Forty-Five Thousand, One Hundred and Eleven Naira (N3,835,745,111.00), while the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Hospitality received Four Billion, Four Hundred and Thirty-Five Million, Eight Hundred and Sixteen Thousand, One Hundred and Sixty-Six Naira (N4,435,816,166.00).
The Ministry of Women, Youth, and Sport Development received Eleven Billion, Four Hundred and Sixty-Eight Million, Seven Hundred and Thirty-Five Thousand, Nine Hundred and Five Naira (N11,468,735,905.00). The Ministry of Law and Justice was allocated Eighteen Billion, Seven Hundred and Eighty Million, Nine Hundred and Seventy-One Thousand, Six Hundred and Thirty-Seven Naira (N18,780,971,637.00).
The Ministry of Environment and Mineral Development received Fifteen Billion, Four Hundred and Ninety-Seven Million, Seven Hundred and Nineteen Thousand, Sixty-Five Naira (N15,497,719,065.00), while the Ministry of Science and Technology received Eleven Billion, Three Hundred and Fifty-Two Million, Six Hundred and Seventy-Five Thousand, Five Hundred and Twenty Naira (N11,352,675,520.00).
The Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning received Fifty-Three Billion, Eight Million, Six Hundred and Five Thousand, One Hundred and Sixty-One Naira, Four Kobo (N53,008,605,161.04).
The Commissioner encouraged Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to adhere to the basic principles of budget implementation and to seek guidance from the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning whenever the need arises.
He also called on stakeholders and civil society organizations, whom he described as partners in progress, to monitor and assess projects within their domains to ensure they are executed in accordance with specifications.
