Nasarawa: New Akun Education Secretary Assumes Duty, Solicits Stakeholders’ Support


The new Education Secretary of Akun Area Administrative Council in Nasarawa State, Mr. Ovey Waki, has solicited the support of stakeholders, parents, and teachers for an improved standard of primary education in the area.

Waki, the immediate past Councillor representing Ogba/Ubbe/Gaji electoral ward, made the call during the handover ceremony on Wednesday in Akpata, Akun Area Administrative Council.

The new education secretary said he will use his experience to add value to the system while soliciting the support of all and sundry to succeed.

“I want to thank God and thank Governor Abdullahi Sule for giving me this opportunity to serve, and by God’s grace, I will not fail in my responsibilities.

“I also want to appreciate Dr. Kassim Muhammad Kassim, the Chairman of Nasarawa State Universal Education Board (NSUBEB), the Executive Chairman of Nassarawa Eggon Local Government Council, Barrister Iliya Ibn Aliyu, and other stakeholders for the appointment.

“I want to urge you all and other stakeholders to cooperate and support me to succeed for an improved standard of education,” he said.

Waki disclosed that as a former Councillor, he went round schools and villages within the area while promising to key into good education policies.

“As a former Councillor, there is no community, no village, or school that I don’t know.

“By God’s grace, I will use my experience to add value and ensure an improved standard of education in this Area Administrative Council,” he said.

The education secretary also assured of his readiness to discharge his duties without fear or favour.

He appreciated all those who attended the handover ceremony and wished them journey mercies to their various destinations.

Also speaking, Dr. Garba Adigizi, the Administrator, Akun Area Administrative Council, while congratulating Waki on his appointment, assured him of support.

The Administrator, who was represented by Mr. Enoch Amadu, a member supervising education activities in the area, also appreciated Governor Sule for his good education policies in the state.

Earlier, Mrs. Theresa Amos, Head of Personnel of the Education Authority, while handing over the affairs of the Authority to the new Education Secretary, assured him of their cooperation and support at all times.
