In a poignant moment of reflection and aspiration, Hon. Dr. Joseph Haruna Kigbu and his esteemed wife, Prof. Mrs. Kigbu, stood at the revered tomb of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in Atlanta, Georgia, USA on October 2, 2025. This powerful visit to the Center bearing the legacy of a global icon of non-violent resistance underscores Dr. Kigbu’s pursuit of leadership wisdom and vision.

As they paused in contemplation beside the statue of Mahatma Gandhi – the Indian apostle of peace whose philosophy deeply influenced Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s own crusade for civil rights – one senses the convergence of ideals that transcend borders and generations. The echoes of Gandhi’s ahimsa (non-violence) and King’s dream of equality seem to have found resonance with Dr. Kigbu’s own commitment to service and transformative leadership, notably in Nigeria’s Nasarawa State where he aspires to govern with compassion and progress.

This moment captures not just a visit, but a spiritual communion with trailblazers who championed justice and peace, illuminating Dr. Kigbu’s path as he seeks to uplift communities and foster unity – core tenets echoing the enduring legacies of King and Gandhi.

No wonder he earns the affectionate moniker “Likitan Talakawa” (Dr. For the poor), an indeed honourable title for his dedication to serving the common man, especially the vulnerable and underserved. In embodying these noble ideals, Dr. Kigbu stands highly honoured among peers and the people he serves.
