Pastor Jonathan Iorhemba

In a major boost to his 2027 House of Representatives ambition, frontline aspirant for the Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency, Pastor Jonathan Iorhemba, has received full assurance of support from stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Utyondo political bloc of Guma Local Government Area.

The consultation, held at the residence of Elder Michael Atum, brought together elders, political leaders, and community influencers from Mbabai, Mbadwem, and Uvir Council Wards. This engagement is part of Pastor Iorhemba’s ongoing grassroots consultations across Makurdi and Guma as he formally declares his intention to contest for a seat in the National Assembly.

Addressing the gathering, Pastor Iorhemba spoke passionately about the challenges confronting the Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency, including insecurity, youth unemployment, poor infrastructure, and inadequate federal presence. He emphasized the need for responsive and accountable representation to change the narrative for the better.

“For too long, our people have been hardworking without reward. Our youths search endlessly for jobs, our women struggle without support, and our elders live without care. My aspiration is a response to this burden—I want to be the bridge between our communities and the federal government,” he said.

He commended Governor Hyacinth Alia for what he described as people-centered and reform-driven governance in Benue State. According to him, the transformation under the Alia administration deserves continuity, and he pledged to complement the governor’s efforts at the federal level by lobbying for projects and interventions in Makurdi and Guma.

Iorhemba, who formally notified stakeholders of his intention to contest, said his decision was inspired by a commitment to service, shaped by his years in humanitarian and social development work. He highlighted his experience as Program Manager of the Home-Grown School Feeding Programme in Benue State, through which thousands of schoolchildren, cooks, and households benefitted.

“I believe leadership should be about impact and compassion. If elected, I will pursue quality education, better healthcare, youth and women empowerment, and improved security for our communities. My record speaks for itself, and I am ready to serve,” he stated.

Leaders from the Utyondo bloc responded with overwhelming support. Hon. Emmanuel Shintoho of Uvir Ward described Pastor Iorhemba as a “tested and trusted leader” with integrity and competence. Elder Joe Kyado of Mbabai and Hon. Alaki of Mbadwem echoed similar sentiments, pledging total support for his aspiration and praying for divine guidance.

Representing the Mbagwen elders, Hon. Torspark who spoke on behalf of elder Stephen Yogbo reaffirmed their confidence in Pastor Iorhemba’s candidacy, noting that his grassroots connection and service-driven approach make him the right choice for the House of Representatives in 2027.

With this endorsement from Utyondo APC stakeholders, Pastor Iorhemba continues to consolidate his political base across Makurdi and Guma, positioning himself as a leading contender in the race to the National Assembly.
