The Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa State, Dr Labaran Magaji, has tasked the Forum of the Speakers of the 13 Local Government Areas of the State on transparency and accountability to engender development at the grassroots.
Magaji gave the charge while receiving the Forum on a courtesy call in his office in Lafia.
He charged the speakers to play a key role in their respective Councils toward ensuring resources were channeled in the right direction to fast-track development at the grassroots.
Magaji emphasised that local governments in Nasarawa State had been given autonomy, noting that the state Government did not tamper with their resources.
He called on the forum of speakers at the local government councils to be transparent and prudent in the management of resources to complement Governor Abdullahi Sule’s development efforts.
He expressed concern over the overstaffing of LGA, especially in Administrative Area councils.
“One of the major challenges of the local government is overstaffing, the weight some Development Areas are carrying is more than that of the Local Government Areas.
” If there is any complaint about Gov Sule is that he is overworking, and nobody in this state, no matter the hatred will say Governor Sule misappropriated one Naira,” he noted
The Chairman of the Forum who is also the Speaker of Lafia Local Government Council, Shuaibu Madaki, said the visit was to seek collaboration on how to strengthen the Local Government system for optimal performance. (NAN)
