Dr. Kigbu Bagged Prestigious International Award, Dedicate it to Nasarawa Women

In a grand finale to a three-day International Scientific Conference, Hon. Dr. Joseph Haruna Kigbu was yesterday honoured with the prestigious Distinguished Obstetrics and Gynaecological ICONIC Service Award, capping off a series of high-profile recognitions for Nasarawa State. 

Dr. Kigbu, who also chaired the International conference, dedicated the award to the women of Nasarawa State.

The former Federal Lawmaker, renowned for his compassionate medical work, received the award in the company of his beautiful wife, Prof. Mrs. Sally Kigbu, a distinguished Professor of Law. The award presented by the West African College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (WACOG), points to Dr. Kigbu’s enduring impact on women’s health across the sub-region.

Held in Abuja, from 3rd – 6th September, the Congress and Scientific Conference of the West African College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (WACOG) was a landmark event that celebrated excellence in maternal health across the sub-region.

Expressing his profound gratitude, Dr. Kigbu used the International platform to make a significant announcement. He revealed that “The Hospital for all Nations” also known as “Hospital for the Poor”, a facility built and equipped to International standards in Lafia by his non-governmental organization, Doctors On the Move Africa (DOTMA), will soon be commissioned to provide free healthcare services to Nigerians.

The celebration extended to other notable figures from Nasarawa state. His Excellency, the Governor of Nasarawa State, was awarded the Excellent Health Performance Award for his government’s free maternal healthcare services, which was received on his behalf by Dr. Gaza Gwamna, the state’s commissioner of Health. Additionally, a posthumous award was given to the very Dr. Dalhatu Araf in recognition of his distinguished maternal health services in both the former Plateau and Nasarawa states.

Dr. Kigbu’s dual role as both an Honoured awardee and the chairman of this major International conference highlights his status as a nationally and Internationally respected professional whose life’s work is dedicated to the well-being of the less privileged.
