Women in Aviation gets commendation for making marks in industry

The Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace, have applauded women in the industry for the significant role they are playing in the sector considering the adoption of automatic and self service facilitation.

The commendation was given by the permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Ibrahim Abubarkar Kana, during the day one of a two day Women in Aviation International Sensitization program 2025, organised by Women in Aviation International Nigeria, Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development Chapter, holding at Merit House, Maitama Abuja, slated for 18th to 19th , June 2025, with the theme Technology Development of Women in the Aviation industry.

The Permanent Secretary who was represented by Mr Sani Bello Torankawa, Director Human Resources, Director of Operation Overseeing office of the Permanent Secretary, also commended the organizers and partners of the event for bringing together aviation workers and professionals with the aim of evaluating the importance of technology application and it’s impacts in the aviation sector.

Adding that the event will go a long way in re-enforcing the centrality of technology as it relates to woman in the aviation sector.

“I want to assure the organizers of this event that management will offer it support, guidance and encouragement in the affairs of partners including Women in Aviation, the sport club, labour union and other recognised affiliated bodies operating within operating the purview” he said.

Earlier on her welcome address, the coordinator/Chairperson, Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Engr.Nzekwe Miriam Ifeoma, noted that women in Aviation sector have broken barriers, competed with their team counterparts and excelled in the various fields in the industry, said that the event is aimed at reemphasing the role of technology and reasons why the women folk should as a matter of necessity, step up their roles with the aid of technology.

“In the contemporary world of technology leads to series setback as recently seen in different sectors of the Nigerian economy, I wish to therefore draw attention to all participants at this occasion to as a matter of urgency embrace the wind of change with cutting edge technological solutions and concentrate same with the zeal to learn more” he said.

On her part, a veteran Air traffic controller, Sheba Bello, an instructor with the Nigeria College of Aviation Technology ( NCAT) Zaria, advised women not to look at the professions in the aviation industry as impossible occupation to come into, as there is no one that can not achieve anything if they are determined to it with a positive mindset, work hard and surround themselves with mentors like herself in the industry for advice.

In her lecture, title the role of women in Nation Building as builder, the multiplier effect in the home and life of a girl child, Dr. Ann Chiagolum Wealth House CEO/ Founder, Potential and Career moulders Foundation Nigeria, advised Women omen in Aviation to deliberate about ensuring that the girl child is guided towards bridging the huge gap between the male and the female in the sector and advise them to be good home builders.

She however said that her organization is ready to partner the Women in Aviation to finance the capital intensive training in the aviation industry and other partners for brilliant girls willing to work in the sector.

The event featured lectures, questions and answers as well as networking among key players in the industry, with a communique expected at the end of the two day event.
