The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has sworn in 2358 corps members of the 2025 Batch A Stream II set, deployed to Nasarawa state for their national service.
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state declared the orientation course open at the Magaji Dan-Yamusa NYSC orientation camp in Keffi local government area of the state on Friday.
Sule represented by Mr Yakubu Kwanta, Nasarawa state Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development congratulated the corps members for the successful completion of their academic pursuits which qualified them fr national service.
He said the NYSC orientation course is designed to equip the corps members with requisite skills that will enable them to face the tasks during their service year.
“It is also intended to acquaint you with the culture, custom, and traditions of the people to enable you integrate freely with your host communities,” he said.
He informed the corps members that their predecessors who served in the state had lived up to the ideals of the scheme hence the need for the new corps members to sustain the tempo.
“Similarly you are also expected to exhibit a high sense of commitment and due diligence by contributing their quota to the overall development of our society,” he said.
He also urged them to familiarize themselves with the content of the scheme Bye-laws which according to him are vital guides for their service year.
The governor assured the corps members that his administration will sustain it’s commitment to support corps members who distinguished themselves in the service of the nation.
“I should re-echo that any corps member that initiates projects/programme that will touch the lives of the people of a particular community will be rewarded accordingly,” he added.
He also assured of his administration’s commitment to continue to improve and sustain the welfare of corps members in the state hence the execution of various projects in the orientation camp as part of support to the scheme.
He then commended the NYSC management, course participants and collaborating agencies for their unwavering dedication to the scheme’s objectives.
In her remarks, Hajiya Salamatu Muhammad, Coordinator of the scheme in the state appreciated the governor for his presence at the ceremony, his continued support to the scheme and his commitment to nation-building.
The coordinator explained that the orientation course is not just a routine exercise but a program designed to acquaint them with the values and objectives of the NYSC.
“Beyond that, it aims to foster unity, cultural understanding and a deep sense of patriotism. While the orientation is regimented, it is a platform for physical and mental training, discipline and the inculcation of the spirit of collective responsibility,” she said.
She said the 2358 corps members comprising 1150 males and 1208 females since their arrival on camp have exhibited a remarkable wave of enthusiasm, sturdiness and affinity, creating an atmosphere of unity and purpose that bodes well for the success of the orientation course.
She then called on the corps members to adhere strictly to camp rules, respect constituted authority and actively participate in all activities.
“Seize the opportunities for personal and collective development that this orientation provides and let the spirit of discipline and patriotism guide your actions.
“Your cooperation is crucial in maintaining the order and harmony essential for a successful orientation experience,” she added.
The NYSC Nasarawa state coordinator also appealed to the state government to provide the scheme with a new ambulance to cater for the healthcare of corps members during and beyond the orientation exercise. (NAN)
