Nasarawa: Plateau Community Leader Advocates Women Empowerment for Economic Prosperity

Chief John Bulus, a prominent Plateau community leader in Nasarawa State, has called on governments at all levels to prioritize women empowerment initiatives to foster economic growth and societal development.

Chief Bulus made this appeal while addressing a cross-section of women during the end-of-year meeting of the Berom Women in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.

The annual event serves as a platform for various Plateau ethnic groups in Nasarawa State to reflect on the outgoing year and strategize for mutual cohesion and peaceful coexistence with their host communities.

In his remarks, Chief Bulus emphasized the importance of eliminating barriers that confine women to traditional domestic roles, urging leaders to provide opportunities for women to contribute meaningfully to nation-building. He highlighted the remarkable contributions women have made to Nigeria’s socioeconomic development and encouraged them to remain advocates of peace in their communities.

He further urged the Berom women to be resilient by engaging in agriculture, commerce, and championing girl-child education as key drivers of progress.

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Garose David Tsaku, Chairperson of the Berom Women Association, Lafia branch, praised the strong socioeconomic ties between Plateau and Nasarawa States. She also commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for adopting an open-door policy that has fostered inclusivity and amplified the voices of women in governance.

In goodwill messages, the Vice Chairman of the Plateau Indigenes Development Association in Nasarawa State Lafia branch, Mr. Benjamin Lar, and the Chairman of the Berom Community Association, Mr. Moses Kantong, encouraged women to take active roles in politics and economic development within their communities.

The meeting also featured cultural highlights, including displays of traditional Berom dishes and delicacies, celebrating the rich heritage of the community.
