Violence Protest: Keffi LGC impose dusk to dawn curfew

Keffi local government council has imposed a dusk to dawn curfew on the local government area in a bid to curtail violence as a result of the August 1 nationwide hunger protest.

This is contained in a statement signed by Alhaji Muhammad Baba-Shehu, Chairman of Keffi local government council and made available to newsmen in Keffi on Thursday.

According to Baba-Shehu, the August 1 nationwide hunger protest had taken a dimension that is out of control that even miscreants that are unidentified came prepared to loot.

“In view of the foregoing, it has become imperative to stage a dusk to dawn curfew from 6pm to 6am with effect from today August 1, 2024 in consultation with the security operatives in Keffi,” he said.

He then urged all citizens of Keffi to obey the directive forthwith in the best interest of ensuring sanity and as a security measure.

Report has it that the protesters are aiming to put pressure to take action on hunger, bad governance and high cost of living across the country.

The protest tagged #EndBadGovernanceinNigeria’ is scheduled to last from August 1 to 10.

Our correspondent gathered that on the first day, protesters blocked the Keffi-Abuja highway preventing motorists from leaving or coming into Keffi metropolis.

It was further reports that aside the blocking of the highway, protesters in their hundreds also set fire on car tyres and threatened to beat up motorists who refused to retreat. (NAN)
