Members of the senior staff at the Federal University of Lafia in Nasarawa State have joined their counterparts in public universities across the country in a peaceful protest over non-payment of their four months withheld salaries.
The branch Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, Comrade Daniel Dajen while addressing newsmen in Lafia said that the action followed a directive from the national leadership of the association.
He stated that the protest became inevitable due to the federal government’s lack of commitment to pay off their withheld salaries which according to him was long overdue.

The SSANU Chairman explained that the association had been in a series of meetings with representatives of the federal government on the need to meet up their demands including the payment of their four months withheld salaries but to no avail.
Comrade Daniel Dajen noted that university workers especially the non-academic and senior staff had exhibited a high sense of patience and understanding to ensure amicable resolution despite the economic hardship they had been subjected to due to non-payment of their salaries.

Mr Dajen called on the federal government to commence payment of their withheld four months’ salaries immediately to avert further breakdown of industrial harmony in all campuses of public universities across the country.
The university workers who converged on the Sports Complex of the institution in large numbers holding leaves while displaying placards with different comments, marched to all the faculties and departments of the school chanting solidarity songs.
