
A don at Federal University, Lafia in Nasarawa State, Professor Samaila Usman Dakyes has advocated the entrenchment of a cultural and value reoriented system to tackle corruption in conducting public affairs in the country.
Professor Samaila Dakyes who is the Deputy Vice Chancellor Research, Statistics and Partnership in the institution made the call in Lafia during the annual Cultural Day of Plateau Indigenes in Nasarawa State.
The Plateau Indigenes Cultural Day is an annual event which provides the opportunity for over fifteen Plateau State ethnic nationalities residing in all parts of Nasarawa State to reunite and showcase their various traditional ways of life.
In a keynote address, Professor Samaila Dakyes stated that Nigeria like any other African society is highly endowed with rich cultures and norms hence the need for leaders to pay more attention to developing those values rooted in the diversity of the country to provide guidance in taking decisions.
The Professor of Forensic Graphics and Security Printing who noted that corruption is a threat to national unity called on the political class to shun selfishness and instead, imbibe the principle of justice, fairness and accountability as part of providing solution to the economic and security challenges facing the country.
Professor Samaila urged the Plateau Indigenes to remain upright and enlist as vanguards of peace and unity to ensure sustainable development of the their host state

President Plateau Indigenes Development Association, Mr Nyapzak Emmanuel explained that the aged long mutual relationship between Plateau and Nasarawa States had produced enormous socioeconomic benefits due to the peaceful coexistence among the various ethnic groups.
Highpoint of the event include traditional song performances by all the Plateau ethnic groups and display of cultural foods.
