Nasarawa State Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mr Francis Orogu, has alleged that the protest by some citizens of the state in Lagos over the sale of the Lagos liaison office was stage-managed to witch-hunt former Gov. Umaru Al-Makura.
The PDP Chairman stated this in an interview with newsmen on Tuesday in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
It could be recalled that the Nasarawa State indigenes residing in Lagos State under the auspices of Nasarawa State Development Association, protested the sales of the liaison office at a press conference on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2023.
Alh. Musa Ikushigya, Chairman of the group during the press conference expressed utmost dismay over the manner in which their members were dehumanised by men of the Nigerian Police Force at the premises of the office.
The group at the protest alleged that the indigenes of the state were evicted from the property located at Plot 1234 Bishop Oluwole Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, on the guise of being illegal occupants.
But reacting to the protest by the group, the PDP Chairman said that the assets of the state including the Lagos liaison office were sold in 2017 during the administration of Al-Makura.
He explained that why is the group talking and protesting over the sales of the property six years after it was sold; if not stage-managed.
“The members of this group are residence of Lagos State but kept quiet all this while and suddenly realised that the property has been sold,” he added.
The PDP Chairman explained that he was not in support of the sales of the assets of the state anywhere and had made efforts to stop the action of government in that regard.
“I challenged Nasarawa State Government in 2017 at the High Court when the sales of the assets came up.
“Though I lost the case at the High Court, I appealed against the judgement,” he added.
He, therefore, called for the revocation of the sales of all the Nasarawa State Government properties in states across the country and not just to single one of the properties.(NAN).
