Plateau Assembly calls for Reintroduction of North-Central Devt. Commission Bill

Plateau State House of Assembly has called on the Senator representing Plateau Northern District in the Senate, Dr. Simon Mwadkon to reintroduce the bill for the establishment of the North-Central Development Commission in the 10th Senate.

The call was made in a motion by member representing Langtang North-Central and Deputy Chief Whip, Hon. Nanbol Rimvyet during Wednesday plenary at the State Assembly complex in Jos, Plateau State.

The North-Central geopolitical zone comprises of Federal Capital Territory FCT Abuja, Plateau, Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Niger and Nasarawa States.

In the motion, Hon. Rimvyet noted that the geopolitical zone has significant potentials for development but is faced with factors that impedes the development like inadequate infrastructure, Banditry, Kidnapping, unemployment and poverty among others.

He recalled that the bill was presented at the floor of the House of Representatives during the 9th Assembly but was denied passage. He suggested that the reintroduction and if eventually passed into law will be of great advantage to the zone.

The House unanimously adopted the motion after deliberating on its importance and also called on the Secretary to the Government of the Federation SGF, Sen. George Akume who is also from the zone and Plateau State Governor to liaise with Governors from the zone to lobby the National Assembly and the President for the passage of the bill.

Another motion was moved by member representing Langtang North-North, Hon. Nannim Lagyi on the Plateau State Government to urgently revive Technical and Vocational Education in the State.

During contributions on the motion, the members frowned at the current situation of the Bukuru Technical College where they said it is in a decay condition and has turned to retirement ground for Teachers.

The Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Fom Gwattson who is a member representing Jos South, regretted the situation in the school where he said the alarming condition of the college have pushed many youths into illegal mining.

Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Moses Sule added that reviving the center will go along way in addressing unemployment and youth restiveness in the state where by making them self employed.

The Speaker directed the House Committee on Science and Technology to intervene in the matter and other vocational training centres in the state through an oversight function and get back to the house.

Also, member representing Jos North-North in the assembly, Hon. Adamu Aliyu moved a motion on a call on the Plateau State Government to authorize the State Ministry of Health and other relevant agencies to check what he described as the alarming activities of quack health practitioners and unregistered Medical facilities within the state.

Moving the motion, the member cited the recent case of one Dr. Noah Kekere, the proprietor of Murna Clinic and Maternity, Nasarawa Gwom in Jos, who allegedly removed the kidney of one Mrs. Kehinde while conducting surgery on her sometimes in 2018 as alleged by her husband.

It could be recalled that husband to Mrs. Kehinde raised the alarm when it was discovered at the University of Jos Teaching Hospital that her kidney was removed and the discovery led to the arrest of the suspect, Dr. Noah Kekere which later on the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA Jos branch had in a statement confirmed that he is a quack.

The Plateau State 10th Assembly had during the Wednesday plenary announced their first recess, starting from September 14th to October 23, 2023.
