
Nasarawa State Government has distributed 3,100 bags of 50kg rice to vulnerable persons in continuation of the distributions of palliative in three Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.
The beneficiaries of the rice and cash palliatives included the aged and people living with disability in Awe, Keana and Obi Local Government Areas.
Speaking at the distribution on Tuesday across the three LGAs, Governor Abdullahi Sule said the gesture was the support from President Bola Tinubu’s-led administration to cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy removal.
Sule added that the exercise was in continuation of the distribution of the palliative that had started on Aug. 22.
The governor had performed a similar exercise since the official inauguration of the distribution in Doma, Kokona, Keffi, Karu, Nasarawa, Toto, Akwanga, Nassarawa-Eggon and Wamba LGAs.

He explained that 100 beneficiaries were drown from each electoral ward across all the LGAs of the state.
“Awe has 11 electoral wards, Keana has 10 and Obi has 10 electoral wards respectively.
“Each of the beneficiary was given one bag of 50kg of rice and N5000 and Awe had 1, 100 beneficiaries, Keana 1000 and Obi 1000 respectively,” Sule added.
The governor also said he had directed that all civil servants including LGAs workers would be paid N10, 000 and pensioners N5000 as palliative immediately.
He added that the palliative for civil servants and pensioners would last for the next six months.
The governor therefore, supervised the distribution of the items and cash himself to ensure that it gets to the real beneficiaries.

On her part, Margret Elayo, Commissioner for Special Duties, Humanitarian Affairs and Non-governmental Organisations (NGOs), said the gesture was to improve the welfare of the vulnerable in the society.
The commissioner added that this exercise would not be the last as the government would still come back for more distribution of the palliative.
She further said that the government had put measures on ground to ensure that the food items and money gets to the beneficiaries.
In his thank you message on behalf of others Area Council Chairmen, Abdul Sanusi-Giza, Chairman of Keana LGA lauded the president and the governor for the gesture that was aimed at cushioning the effects of the fuel subsidy removal.

He explained that the support would go a long way to alleviate the suffering that the masses are going through since the removal of the subsidy.
in a goodwill message, Alh. Abdullahi Omegba, Osana of Keana and Chairman Traditional Council of Keana LGA, expressed gratitude to the federal and state governments for the gesture.
The Osana of Keana explained that because the government had cared for the poor, Almighty God would also care of the president and the governor to have successful tenures. (NAN).
