Commission begins process for LG elections in Nasarawa State

The Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) has began the process for the elections of the Chairmen and Councillors of the 13 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state.

Barr. Ayuba Wandai, Chairman of the commission made the disclosure at a press briefing on Thursday in Lafia, Nasarawa State capital.

The NASIEC Chairman explained that the elections for the current Chairmen and Councillors was conducted on Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2021.

He explained that the current LGAs officials were inaugurated on Friday, Oct. 8, 2021 for a three year tenure which would end on Oct. 7, 2024.

He explained that the law establishing the commission had given them the mandate to begin preparation for election one year before the expiration of the tenure of the occupance of the offices.

“The commission is a law-abiding institution that has continued to promote the adherence to the laws governing the conduct of LGAs elections in the state,” he added.

The commission’s Chairman also announced that political parties interested in featuring candidates in the elections should conduct their primaries from Jan. 3,-Feb. 10, 2024 and address all disputes arising from their primaries.

He also announced that the elections for the Chairmen and Councillors would be conducted on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024. (NAN).
