Army nabs 3 rail track vandals in Nasarawa State 

The Troops of Headquarters of 4 Special Forces Doma, Nasarawa State have arrested three suspected rail track vandals at Kwarra community of Keana Local Government Area (LGA) of Nasarawa State.

Maj. Joseph Afolasade, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations 4 Special Forces Command, Doma made the disclosure at a press briefing on Monday in Doma LGA.

According to Maj Afolasade “On Aug. 5, 2023 at about 11:00pm, troops of the Command during a routine patrol, intercepted three suspected rail track vandals at Kwarra community of Keana LGA.

“The suspects were arrested with large quantity of rail track loaded in one 18-tyres truck with registration number DED 364 YC,” he added.

He added that the suspects claimed that they were deceived by their sponsors who are still on the run.

The Acting Deputy Director, Army Public further said that preliminary investigation revealed that on Aug. 23, the driver was contacted to convey the vandalized railway tracks to Illorin in Kwara State for the sum of N1, 6 million.

He added that Maj.-Gen. Hillary Nzan, Commander of the Special Forces had approved that the suspects be handed over to  Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further investigation and prosecution.

He therefore handed over the suspects to the representative of Nasarawa State Commandant of NSCDC.

Responding, Mr. Jerry Victor, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of NSCDC,  expressed gratitude to the Army for the level of collaboration to tackle insecurity in the state.

He added that usually this type of crime is being committed by a syndicate and promised that investigation would be continued to arrest other members of the group for prosecution.

He therefore, assured that the suspects would be prosecuted after investigation was concluded to serve as deterrent to others.

One of the suspect who is the driver of the truck, Chibuki Akubilo told newsmen that he was contacted by one Mr. Charse to convey the items to Illorin. (NAN).
