Medical Services have resumed fully in Nasarawa State Government owned hospitals following the suspension of a five day warning strike declared by the state branch of the Nigerian Medical Association NMA.
Addressing newsmen after emergency Congress in Lafia, the State Chairman of Nigerian Medical Association NMA Dr Attah Peter said throughout the five days warning strike the state government failed to address their demands.
He stated that the Congress had issued another two weeks ultimatum to the state government to commence implementation of the issues in contention.
The NMA Chairman noted that non of their demands which include non implementation of promotion and annual increments for over nine years, non implementation of hazard allowance, failure to pay Medical Residency Training Fund and non implementation of national minimum wage was met.
While calling on doctors in all the 19 General Hospitals owned by the state government including Specialist Hospital Lafia to resume work immediately, Dr Attah Peter said they would proceed on indefinite strike after two weeks if their demands were not given attention.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Negotiation Committee and Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State Dr. Emmanuel Akabe said the inability of the state government to address the demands of the doctors was due to paucity of funds especially hazard allowances and minimum wage.
