There is a palpable confusion in Nasarawa State as two members emerged as Speakers for the 7 House of Assembly in the state.
The inauguration of the 7 House of Assembly in the state was earlier scheduled to hold today, Tuesday 6th June, 2023 but was latter postponed on an alleged security report.
Before the postponement of the inauguration, 13 out of the 24 elected members had already gained access to the state assembly complex as early as possible, ready for the inauguration after they suspected foul play in the process as some of them accused the state Governor, Abdullahi Sule of a grand plan to impose his anointed candidate on them as Speaker.
Report has it that after the acting clerk of the Assembly, Mr. Ibrahim Musa announced the postponement and said the new inauguration time will be communicated to the members, 10 of them loyal to the governor moved to the hall of the State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and elected the governor’s preferred candidate Rt.Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi (APC) who had served as Speaker of the Assembly for 8 years.
It was also reported that member representing Nasarawa Eggon East Hon Jecob Kudu was elected Deputy Speaker in that camp where the acting Clerk of the House Mr. Ibrahim Musa administered the oath of office to them.
In another development, the 13 out of the 24 members who had earlier gained access to the Assembly complex also conducted their elections in the chamber and produced Daniel Oga Ogazi from Kokona East (APC) as speaker and Mohammed Oyanki (PDP) from Doma North as Deputy Speaker.

It was reported that one of the member elect from Nasarawa local government area, Hajiya Hajara Danyaro was absent at the elections of the both speakers.
It could be recalled that the opposition People’s Democratic Party PDP in Nasarawa State had earlier raised and alarm over a planed interference by the state governor, Abdullahi Sule over the Speakership issue.
Also, Coalition of civil society groups in the State had on Sunday 4th June, 2023 called on the state governor to desist from interfering with the process of electing principal officers of the state house of assembly.
